LightsFest 2013

November 28, 2013

The trees are up outside the Co-op on Burton Road and The Northern on Palatine Road, the street lights are in place, and the date has been set for the West Didsbury Xmas Lights Switch on – THURSDAY 5th DECEMBER from 6.30pm…

Lightsfest 5th Dec 2013
As ever, we’re still finalising plans – and, if previous years are anything to go by, the plans are a bit of moveable feast depending upon availability of people, weather and technical considerations! So, we’ll be updating details over the next week, but what we can tell you is that, as part of this year’s event, local singer Nicky McCallan (you might know him from his regular gigs at The Violet Hour), will be leading the entertainment, with a mix of his own songs and Xmas classics with the children from Cavendish & Lancasterian schools. Nicky has recently released a debut EP and he’ll be performing some of these tracks on the night.

We’ve also been selling tickets for the LightsFest Prize Draw – this year, as traders, we’ve had to raise quite a bit more for our contribution to the lights, but West Didsbury businesses have once again been extremely generous and tickets have been selling well since we launched the draw back in September at WestFest. More tickets are available at David Gavin Design on Burton Road – the full draw will be made on Friday 6th December and the winners all notified individually and posted here. Prizes are as follows:

THE OWL – A LightsFest tradition is our hand carved owl, by Didsbury wood carver Andy Burgess and once again, he’s agreed to carve an owl. Andy has exhibited recently at Tatton Park and The RHS Chelsea, so his carvings are becoming quite the thing. And you could be the owner of our fifth owl… (Our owl is being looked after by Matt at David Gavin on Burton Rd – do pop along and say hello)
