Standing Up For Withington…

July 2, 2013

We’re probably all well aware of the recent news about Withington Baths & Leisure Centre – earmarked for closure, massive public campaign in support of the plan to convince the council to reconsider, reprieve for two years achieved, and now… the start of the journey to ensure that this beautiful building remains open & fully functioning as a community space, well into the future.

So, the first fundraiser was organised. An ambitious plan like this costs money, but we live in an amazing community where people are continually prepared to give their time and their talents, so we had a sneaking suspicion that we could pull this one off. Dave Haslam set about getting the acts for the evening, and within no time he’d secured the set list – and on Wednesday 26th June, an audience of just less than 70 lucky ticket holders, settled for a night of comedy compered by John Thomson and with comedians Dave Haslam (yes, seriously!), Andrew Ryan, Hayley Ellis and Justin Moorhouse…

Our next event will be posted on the website (under development) – and it promises to be just as good as the first event. You can follow Love Withy Baths on Twitter, where all news is posted regularly.

(And just in case you’re not sure who was behind this event, huge thanks to Sian Astley, MartinSykes, Paul Smith, Dave Haslam, Pete Ruane, Rachel Boyd, Tony Kirwan and Folk Didsbury for helping us out with the bar!)
