That’s Thursday Nights Sorted Then…

October 26, 2012

Yes, that’s right. If you love local, independent businesses then you need to know about the brand new Didsbury Market, which is running every Thursday evening until 20th December. The market was launched last night – and was pretty damn fabulous!

Located on the front car park of The Didsbury Pub, there was a real party atmosphere. Despite it being fairly chilly, there was a sizeable number of post-market shoppers sitting at the outside tables enjoying the thirties tunes & Lindy Hop dancing – with more than a few joining. If you thought Tim from Love2Eat was a good bingo-caller, you should see him tripping the light fantastic 🙂

The Market opens at 4.30pm and as it grows and more people get to know about it, our advice is – get there as early as you can.The food stalls were obviously very popular with some completely sold out by 7.00ish. In fact, I’m putting a pre-order with The Great Northern Pie Co next week – when we got there, there was only one lonely Goats Cheese Pie left…

Other food stalls included Spanish hams and cheeses, freshly baked breads (we heartily recommend the Cheddar Cheese Bread…), chocolates & fudge, olives and spices and pizzas from Dough-It-Yourself (also stocked at a Taste of Honey in West Didsbury). But it wasn’t just about food stalls – there were really high quality craft stalls, which will undoubtedly come right into their own in the lead up to Christmas.

The Market is run by the guys behind the very successful monthly Castlefield Market – and plans are already in place to introduce more traders and entertainment. It will run Thursdays between 4.30pm until 9.00pm until Thursday 20th December – the market will take a break over January but will return in February 2013. Parking is still available in the rear carpark of The Didsbury – additional parking is being investigated so we’ll let you know as soon as possible about this. If this first market is anything to go by, it’s going to go from strength, especially as it has the added advantage of being located in such a sociable space. What’s not to love about it?

Went this evening for the first time on a cold, wet evening. Great food & crafts on offer at reasonable prices. Footfall seemed lower than i anticipated, poss due to the weather, but the market itself certainly seemed to have huge potential, certainly better than the Mcr Markets one in W Didsbury – I guess this will expand over time. Congrats to all involved! Keep it up please.

Does anyone have details of the organisers or how to book a table?
