Start The Day The Baked Breakfast Way…

September 9, 2012

So, Saturday morning dawned bright, sunny and very hot and At The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon was road testing the about-to-be-launched Baked Breakfast Range to a small group of Didsbury foodie people…

Burton Road’s very cutesy tea-room will start serving the Breakfast Menu from Saturday 15th September – and we think you’re going to be in for a very lovely treat if you chose to start your day the Dishes and Spoons way. Anna explained that they were not going down the sausages & egg route – because, as she pointed out, we’re a bit spoiled for choice when it comes to breakfast options in West Didsbury. These breakfasts instead will focus on exceptional coffee, a variety of baked sweet treats, plus home made granola and sour dough toasts with preserves and honey and marmite…

The sourdough toast – both granary and white – was probably the best toast I’ve tasted. Seriously! Two very generous slices, toasted to perfection – and paired with jams sourced from Wild & Fruitful, and local honey from Chorlton hives. And, you’ve either gotta love it or loathe it – tiny pots of marmite.

The home made granola was given a huge thumbs-up. Served in vintage enamel breakfast bowls, this was a huge portion, packed full of rolled oats, nuts, honey & fruit – and with the cutest old school, primary style, glass milk bottle. (Although we had semi-skimmed milk, you can have full fat, rice milk, soya milk etc).

Next up was a Pecan & Caramel Roll and a slice of toasted Banana Bread served with a very generous dish of nutella – another big thumbs up! The Banana Bread was moist and delicious and the chocolate nutella complemented it perfectly. All was washed down with an individual tea pot of Earl Grey (loose leaves, no bags here) and coffee from Union Roasted – voted by everyone at the tasting who tried it, to be a coffee of the highest order!

The Baked Breakfast range will be launched at And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon on Saturday 15th September and will be served every weekend, with a focus on baked and home-made. As well as the baked items we sampled, you can also expect cinnamon rolls, breakfast muffins and madeleines – all of which can be taken away too! Said breakfast items will be accompanied by weekend papers, good coffee and nice tunes and will be served up every Saturday and Sunday from opening until 12:30pm – 1.00pm (ish).
