Sun. Food. Drink. Manchester. A Pretty Good Combination…

October 17, 2011

UPDATE : Huge congratulations to our friends at Electrik, Parlour Chorlton, Croma and W.H.Frost who won their categories in the MFDF11 Awards. Huge congratulations also to nominees The Rose Garden & Rhubarb – you are very much winners!

October in Manchester. The uninitiated, (although can’t quite believe there are many of those left),  might think grey, drizzly, miserable, chilly weather. They may think stodgy food. In fact, on the very day we found ourselves driving into town to experience the 2011 Manchester Food &  Drink Festival hub at Albert Square, we heard on the radio that the Queen of the Hot Pot, Betty Turpin, had gone to Hot Pot heaven – almost as if to reinforce the idea of “The North”.

WRONG!

It was sunny. Skies were blue. It was warm. And Albert Square was buzzing with people sampling the wide variety of food and drink on offer. Food and drink that is ALWAYS available in Manchester. Not just on occasions like the Food Festival.

So we went for it. The Manchester Egg. Fish & Chips and Beef & Ale Pie from The Room. Cheese & Pate from Old Tom. Elbow ale. Hot cider. Mauritian street food. A veritable feast on a Saturday afternoon. And who’d have thought it, all going on up north…
