Ghislaine Howard - Queenston Arthouse, West Didsbury

Ghislaine Howard studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne. She is best known for her ground-breaking exhibition concerning pregnancy and birth, the first of its kind, at Manchester City Art Gallery, “A Shared Experience”. She exhibits on a regular basis with the Wendy J. Levy Contemporary Art gallery in Didsbury.

A painter of powerful and expressive means, she has shown her large cycle of paintings The Stations of the Cross / The Captive Figure to great acclaim at the two Liverpool Cathedrals and at Canterbury Cathedral and at Gloucester Cathedral. The exhibitions have been sponsored by Liverpool Hope University College, working with the support of Amnesty International, who have said of her work,

These significant and powerful paintings open up opportunities to highlight and explore the issue of torture and the plight of victims of oppression all over the world

Ghislaine was named “Woman of the Year” in 2008 for her contribution to art and society. Her vibrant works chart and interpret our shared human experience. Ghislaine’s chosen charity, whilst she is exhibiting at Queenston Arthouse, is Amnesty International.

Once again, Laura Mayall has opened up her home, on Queenston Road for the second exhibition in the summer programme. This really is a secret gallery, tucked away on one of West Didsbury’s Victorian villa lined roads – but we don’t think it’ll stay that secret for too long. Not only does Laura have artists exhibiting – she also has guest musicians, some just emerging, some very well established. And, you can always enjoy a glass of wine as you’re browsing.     My twin brother, Robert saw this show today, and says it was brilliant. Looking to Danny Cawley next week. I would have been there too had i not been going somewhere else!
