Hop on board the Didsbury Art Bus…

April 14, 2011

It seems ironic that in a week when we’ve mostly been embroiled in the hot potato that is the West Didsbury proposed residents’ parking scheme, that we spend a good part of Thursday evening on board a bus, parked up oustside the Wendy J Levy Art Gallery on Warburton Street, in Didsbury Village. This wasn’t just any bus though. It was the CCA Art Bus – a mobile work of art designed by Sir Peter Blake. And also a mobile art gallery. Sir Peter designed the bus in a groovy pop art style, with the aim of creating a rock ‘n’ roll tour bus for art and artists. The CCA Art Bus visits schools, communities, festivals, galleries and art events – and tonight was part of the “Mending Broken Hearts” exhibition at the Didsbury gallery.

This was an amazing pop-up event – art on a bus, with the Rolling Stones et al playing in the background…
