The West Didsbury Wedding Event

March 27, 2011

It’s been a very busy week since our inaugral West Didsbury Wedding Event, held at Rhubarb Restaurant, Didsbury on Saturday 19th March, so only just catching up with blog now…

The event came about as a result of discussions between a number of the businesses in the area and we decided to see if it was possible to host an event where we could begin to explore the possibility of a wedding being planned, using primarily local independent businesses. Lisa Ramsden, owner of Rhubarb, offered the restaurant as a venue. It enabled her to showcase the interior of the restaurant and to showcase the talents of the newly appointed head chef, Bryn Evans who prepared fabulous canapes for guests. Because this was our first event, we wanted to keep it fairly small and intimate. The consenus of everyone involved was that this was to be a strictly no pressurised selling event. If brides-to-be were going to visit our event, we were determined to offer a different experience. With a lot of businesses, with a lot of collective experience of wedding fayres, we had a head start in knowing what we wanted. And what we definitely didn’t want.

So, Saturday 19th March dawned bright and sunny and we set about preparing Rhubarb, turning it very quickly from a restaurant to a vintage themed wedding venue. At 11.00, our first couple arrived – and they didn’t stop arriving until just before 3.00. The atmosphere was very relaxed and informal, certainly helped by the beautiful acoustic performances by singer and guitarist Zoe Chiotis.

The whole event was captured by Pearls and Lace Films – the film is currently being edited but we’ll be sharing this with you as soon as possible. Jonny Draper (wedding photographer extraordinaire) also captured the day in his own inimitable style, shooting our gorgeous bride (for the day!) in various West Didsbury locations –

So – first event, mission accomplished. Feedback from  our visitors would suggest that we’d achieved our aim of a very relaxed and informal affair – but chock full wedding experts. All from in and around Didsbury. Proving it is largely possible to do your wedding locally and support independent businesses.

Our website is being updated with images and footage from the event, so watch this space for news, including date of the next occasion…
