Pizza Perfection…

Thyme Out Delicatessen, West Didsbury

One of the best things about living and working in West Didsbury is that you don’t have to go very far to get very splendid food. Today, when the sun broke through the clouds briefly, we decided we’d head off to Thyme Out Deli. We knew that John the Gardener had visited the day previously to tidy up our allotments, so we felt sufficiently guilty to go and check out his handiwork*, and have a bite to eat. Now, I can’t normally resist Eggs Arnold Bennet, but today I thought I’d try a pizza and was tempted by the Fungi Pizza with portobello mushrooms, caramelised red onions and buffalo mozzarella – all on top of freshly made pizza base. It was not only enormous, but simply delicious too. I cannot recommend it highly enough – next time you’re in, give it a whirl…

Another treat awaited when we got back to the office – cakes to sample from And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon. Feeling very satiated from Thyme Out Deli, I didn’t think I’d be able to eat another morsel.

How wrong was I?

The lemon and raspberry cheesecake cupcake was utterly melt in the mouth – and just the perfect size. Topped off by three juicy raspberries, it also felt like proper health food, so no guilt involved. I’d love to be able to comment on the tiramisu cupcake but this was devoured by another. Very quickly, and by someone who confesses not to be over-fussed by cakes…

As they say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating –

Today, had been the night we were going to visit Frankie’s Fish Bar and join in the birthday celebrations, but we’re sensibly leaving that until a night when we haven’t feasted all day…

*John the Gardener has done us proud by the way, and the allotments are ready for the Community Garden to swing into action. Although, judging by the size of the carrot that Ben pulled up from our patch today, his fruit and veg supplier won’t be losing sleep anytime soon…
