Christmas is coming to Didsbury…

November 29, 2010

It’s almost 1st December, so it seems OK to mention the C word. And it all begins on Wednesday 1st December with the switch on of the Didsbury Village lights outside the Library. The Beaver Road School Choir will be singing carols and all are invited afterwards to Emmanuel Church for mulled wine and Christmassy biscuits.

On the same night, Sian at Didsbury’s Flower Lounge is hosting a Festive Open Evening, where Flower Lounge staff will guide you through the creating of Christmas wreaths, table centre pieces and festive flower displays. Christmas stock has been arriving and you can be sure that all of your decorating needs will be catered for – from stunning glass tree baubles, to sparkly reindeers, through to berry garlands. Festive cakes will be provided by AiryFairyCakes and wine by West Didsbury’s Reserve Wine Shop.

Thursday 2nd December sees West Didsbury lighting up. Last year, we saw Dave Haslam doing the honours. This year, we’ve got Clint Boon. We’ve also got the choirs from Cavendish Primary School and Lancasterian School – as well as much festive revelry, with late night opening and special offers. See Didsbury Life for latest information. The switch on will happen outside the Co-operative on Burton Road. For safety reasons, we’ve been advised by the police that people coming to join in the fun, watch from the opposite side of the road – this is only the second year we’ve done this and we’re still working out the best way to organise a growing community event, so do bear with us!
