This week started off with a meeting with Anna, at And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon, the lovely bakery which is due to open on Friday 15th October at 230 Burton Road, West Didsbury. The refurbishment of what used to be used to be Novus Contemporary Art Gallery is really coming on. The interior has been reconfigured, with a big kitchen area added to the back of the premises. The signature colours of the striking logo (now in situ on the shop front courtesy of Gregg, Cactus Designs) have been carried through into the interior. Anna has sourced some beautiful vintage pieces which really add originality to the shop, including a gorgeous 1950s kitchen cabinet. What we also really like about this lovely new independent addition to the road, is that Anna is already forging collaborative relationships with other businesses on  the road. As well as working closely with Didsbury Life, she’s been working with Silver Apples, David Gavin Designs and Living Flowers. We look forward to the shop opening – and to the winners of the recent competition with Didsbury Life – being invited to the shop to pick up their boxes of cupcakes.

DIDSBURY ARTS FESTIVAL : Photography Exhibition

Art Exhibition at Didsbury Life

Art Exhibition at Didsbury Life

Last night (Friday evening) saw the latest exhibition at Didsbury Life, this time as part of Didsbury Arts Festival. We’re delighted to be associated with this festival. Our sister design company, We Are Life, built the website for the festival – this year, to make it as easy as possible for the festival team to update, we built it in WordPress, meaning that updates can be done quickly and easily by Maria and her team. And, this is the second time we’ve hosted an art exhibition as part of the festival. The exhibitors this time round are Anita Farkas, Pam Smith and Hannah Wiles. All works will be on display until October 14th and all are for sale, so why not pop in and maybe buy some original art?

A really enjoyable evening was had by all – we’re really impressed with the artwork currently adorning our walls. To be fair to the girls, they had to follow the WestFest exhibition, featuring Mark Nelson and Stephen Campbell which was amazing. Which is why we’re so delighted that the quality of work on our walls hasn’t diminished.

The Didsbury Life office is open daily for viewings of the artwork – however, please note that it is a working office and if we’re in a meeting, it may not be convenient for you to view. However, we are working with the artists to ensure that we’re open as much as possible.

It was also a good night for sales of our tickets for the XmasWestFest Christmas lights prize draw. This year, the City Council has advised that if we want a Winter Wonderland again, traders have to pay for it. Rather than going around individual businesses, cap in hand, we decided that a prize draw was a better way to go. So, for just £2 per ticket, you can be in with the chance of winning one of the prizes donated by West Didsbury businesses. This list is being added to so do keep checking back. Tickets are sale in the Didsbury Life office and at The Northern Lawn Tennis Club.

Didsbury Arts Festival : Opening Day

Today (Saturday 25th) also saw the official opening of the Didsbury Arts Festival. Unfortunately, we missed John Thomson opening the festival – although to be honest, if he wasn’t in the company of Cheeky Monkey, Bernard Right-On, Fat Bob & Louis Balfour we weren’t too bothered have missed him. If you missed him too, you can catch up with what he had to say when the official DAF film is released, as our friend Jess, interviewed and filmed him.

Parsonage Gardens was bathed in beautiful September sunlight when we arrived – it does seem that it is now the law that both WestFest and The Didsbury Arts Festival be blessed with gorgeous weather. Here’s the proof…

Young and (less) young were being entertained. Music from The Nick Holmes Band, traditional eastern European dancing, Punch & Judy, cupcakes and homemade jams and preserves. And, children climbing the trees and generally having a fab time of it…
