Life Update…

April 14, 2010

These blogs are a bit like the proverbial buses – none come along for ages and then all of a sudden a couple come at once. The thing is, I have to grab spare moments to do this – and unfortunately not many of them come along very often!

There are so many things now starting to stir in Didsbury – Spring must be here! – that I thought I’d use the blog as a way to get out information about some of the interesting things that will be happening over the next few weeks.

A shameless plug first of all. As some of you may be aware, we’re working with the Wendy J Levy Art Gallery in Didsbury Village, to raise funds for the Unicef Haiti Relief effort. Artist Lisa De Prudhoe has donated a canvas [valued at £4000] which is being raffled, with tickets priced at £5.

We’ve set the target of raising £20,000 by May 1st – although we still have a long way to go, we’re sticking in there and promoting it for England [or Haiti…]. Tickets are available direct from us at 212 Burton Rd, M20 2LW [where the canvas is also on show] or from Wendy’s Art Gallery on Warburton Street, M20 6WA. Alternatively, you can purchase online via the secure payment on the website. All proceeds go directly to Unicef – so please try & dig deep. After all, just one £5 donation could secure you a piece of unique art, as well as knowing you’ve contributed to making a difference to the life of someone in Haiti.

Now, a bit of a date for your diary – Tuesday 27th April, sees West Didsbury’s Steranko hosting a Spring Fashion Show at Gusto in Didsbury.

Tickets for the event are priced at £5, and include a complimentary drink and 25% discount on all food orders throughout the evening. Lots of our local Didsbury businesses have donated a selection of very delectable prizes for a raffle – all proceeds from the evening will go to Didsbury based Francis House. For further details or to book tickets for the event, contact Gusto on 0161 445 8209.

Bit of news from the lovely Thyme Out Delicatessen on Nell Lane. Not only have Ben & the team been nominated for Deli of the Year by Olives et Al – click here to register your vote – they’ve also just taken delivery of some chickens, who from Thursday 10th April, will hopefully be producing fresh, free range eggs.

We intend to keep you updated with the progress of the chickens via Didsbury Life & the blog…

Another local Didsbury business making headlines is MacleodBradley on Lapwing Lane.

Not one to shy away from a challenge [see previous blog post – Vietnam & CAmbodia!], Helen is now throwing herself into the challenge of working with other hairdressing professionals, and the HAIRraising charity, to raise £1 million for Great Ormond Street Hospital. A ball will be held on Sunday 13th June at the Dukenhalgh Hotel & Spa, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Contact Helen on 0161 448 8554 for more info or to book a table.

Our new photographer, Mark, has also been busy snapping away – we’re delighted that he had a commission at the weekend, to photograph a former Miss Italy at a Wedding Fayre in Altrincham, for Sophia Couture. This was work passed to us by our friend, Lawrence Yusupoff – so thanks, Lawrence!

We know how fab Mark is, because his work is currently on show in the office. Come & have a look and maybe make a purchase… He also did the recent shoot for Pinchjo’s Tapas Bar, to accompany the website we built.
