This Is Not Just A Bakery. It’s A West Didsbury Bakery…
Burton Road Bakery is a little bit special. We have a real vantage point, being directly across the road, so whether intentional or not, do see much of what goes on there. And, from way back, when Mark opened his family run business, we’ve seen it go from strength to strength. The magic seems to be that the Bakery has always had something for everyone – the high-vis jacket workers mix with the mums (and dads) on the early morning school run. Business people have meetings in there. West Didsbury traders use it. Families pitch up. At weekends, it’s one of the best places to go if you’re feeling of a delicate disposition the morning after – in fact, the veggie black pudding is said to have magical qualities…
And now, you can experience the Bakery for longer – because there’s now an Early Evening Menu going on. And, it’s absolutely fantastic! Between 4.00pm – 8.00pm (Monday – Thursday) and 4.00pm – 9.00pm (Friday – Saturday), you can enjoy early evening dinner, plus wines, courtesy of Reserve and specially selected beers and ciders.
We think it’s going to be a perfect fit with Rhubarb Restaurant and Folk Cafe Bar – three very different independent businesses, all offering a very different experience, but all co-existing. Fabulous!
And, if you need to be convinced about The Bakery after 4pm, can we just recommend the fish cakes…
Also, as an aside, did you know that all bread is made, freshly baked, on the premises, every day? All dishes are made/baked fresh every day? And, the cheesecake – which is, literally to die for, is made by Mark’s wife?
As we say, it’s a bakery. But, it’s not just a bakery. It’s a West Didsbury Bakery…

Really nice post. I have to admit, I find it hard to locate places that do a really decent cooked breakfast. I’ll be popping in at some point. You’ll probably see me going in from across the road anyway.
Go enjoy one of those breakfasts!
